Nicolás is a proud founder and member of the Carillon Trumpet Quartet. It is a unique trumpet ensemble which specializes in the performance, study, and expansion of the trumpet literature in the duo, trio, and quartet settings. The compositional possibilities for this instrumentation are vast; and the repertoire available, though rarely performed, comes from some of new music's finest voices, including Karlheinz Stockhausen, Mauricio Kagel, Sofia Gubaidulina, and Stefano Scodanibbio.

Audiences and composers often express their surprise and marvel when they realize the rich sonic range that a group of trumpets have at its disposal. The Carillon Trumpet Quartet was formed at CalArts, and has since performed many shows in Los Angeles, including the original production of Mauricio Kagel Nah und Fern, which brings the 1993/94 masterpiece into a live setting for the first time.

Starting in 2018, we have launched the "Carillon Presents" series. This newest venture, independent from our work as an ensemble will produce concerts, which will be a curation of a diverse selection of performers championing new music. Our goal is to promote musicians whose artistic visions run parallel to those of the Carillon Quartet.
